SCHIJNDELAAR

The Schijndelaar (pronouced "Shine-dull-ar") chicken breed was created in the Netherlands by a veterinarian named Ruud Kaasenbrood, in the late 20th century. His goal was to create a breed that lays a green egg, with a feathered crest, a long body and high egg production. He used the the Arauacana for their blue egg gene which the correct crossing can produce green eggs. The Sumatra chicken breed gave him the long body and beautful sheen. The Dutch crested chickens gave him the crested head and Leghorns provide legendary egg production. Schindelaars are prized for their combination of ornamental beauty, long tails, and colorful eggs, making them a distinctive addition to any backyard flock.
