The Delaware chickens were bred in the 1940s for their meat production and white colors. They were replaced as the breed of choice for meat chicken in the 1950s by the Cornish Cross. Friendly and good for both hot and cold climates, this heritage breed is a good choice for almost any flock. According to the Livestock Conservancy, their status is “watch.”
